WATERCOLORS
A famous Los Angeles architect, David Martin of AC Martin Partners, flew into Como with his wife to teach us how to water color before we went to Venice . It was an amazing Friday! We practiced our water coloring in the studio and then we went out into the garden outside of Villa Olmo, were we are studying, to put our new skills to use. I did a quick watercolor of a statue which I was quite proud of. Afterwards we all posted our watercolors on the wall so our professor and our guest could critique them. Usually our professor is very blunt during our critiques, (we call him a big, drunken, Scottish bastard) and considering he is a very experienced watercolorist, I wasn’t sure if I would still have my pride when I left my review. Instead he looked at my painting, said “oh shit,” (translation: ‘good work’) and nothing else. David Martin, who was the architect that flew into Como , was also very impressed with my painting. I am going to keep practicing my watercolor skills and maybe I will have a few more to show off when I get home this summer…
