Today was overcast and cold in
Florence- not quite the perfect day for sitting outside sketching and documenting Bruneleschi’s Ospedale degli Innocenti. We spent the day sitting outside the original orphanage in
Florence, documenting proportions and working on perspectives.
When we were finally dismissed for the day, we high tailed it out of there and went looking for some adventure. We hiked up the hill outside of
Florence to Forte di Belvedere to get a good look at the city and explore the Giardino di Boboli (
Boboli Gardens).
It was a great opportunity to get a few good pictures of the city from above and lay in the grass.

Once the gardens closed for the evening we moved on to the next hill to watch the sunset at the church of San Miniato al Monte.

The adventure continued with some spontaneous exploring of the area around Florence and after 4 hours of walking we were convinced that we had walked all the way to Tuscany. We walked and walked, while enjoying the sights of the countryside beyond the city, without any consideration of what time it was or where we were going. Before long the city skyline had become miniscule and the Duomo was barely recognizable- it was time to start walking back… Our walking adventure ended at Piazzale Michelangelo where we finally rested and took pictures of the city at night. What a day!
